BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – In Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The meetings concentrated on strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing economic collaboration, and advancing development initiatives. Additionally, they examined regional and global issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace efforts, and international security concerns. These talks took place during President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

During their encounter, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored opportunities to deepen the strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany across multiple sectors. Economic cooperation and development collaboration were central topics. The officials also exchanged perspectives on global issues and diplomatic solutions to ongoing crises. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the extensive relations between the two nations and their history of cooperation in political and economic domains.

The Berlin discussions coincided with an expansion of the formal framework governing the UAE-Germany relationship. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The two leaders announced the initiation of a Strategic Dialogue that will address security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. The agreement also encompasses digitalization, transportation, environmental partnerships, culture, and education, broadening the scope of government engagement.

Broader economic framework emerges from strategic partnership

Both governments endorsed plans to establish a German-UAE Investment Council, part of broader efforts to foster connections between public institutions and private sector entities in both countries. Officials welcomed the resumption of the Joint Economic Committee and noted positive outcomes from a bilateral business forum. According to the joint government declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros.

Economic talks also touched on energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint statement outlined cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced the development of advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Germany and the UAE identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as additional focus areas, along with investment and industrial cooperation.

Focus on diplomacy and regional stability remains a priority

Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul also examined regional and international developments during their meeting. Their discussions included ongoing efforts to promote peace, stability, and security worldwide. The agenda emphasized diplomatic engagement and peaceful crisis management. The German government had also highlighted Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ discussions within Berlin’s broader diplomatic agenda.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the talks between the foreign ministers. The discussions integrated foreign policy priorities with economic and developmental objectives discussed during the state visit. These consultations followed previous UAE-Germany discussions held in Berlin in 2026. The latest meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, while maintaining core elements of economic cooperation, investment, and diplomatic relations.
