SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / –  Samsung Electronics introduced its eighth-generation foldable lineup during the global Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London, unveiling three devices: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean technology giant showcased revamped hardware designs, enhanced camera systems, and integrated AI platforms across all three models. This announcement marks the debut of the Ultra branding within Samsung’s foldable device lineup, aiming at enterprise users with a record-thin foldable profile measuring 4.1 millimeters when open and weighing 215 grams.

The standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a new form factor with a weight of 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable smartphone in the company’s product history. It sports a 10:16 aspect ratio on the cover display and a 4:3 aspect ratio on the main screen, allowing content to adapt seamlessly for browsing, reading, or video playback. Both screens utilize Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits under Vision Booster technology. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, it includes a 4,800 mAh battery.

To boost structural robustness while maintaining a slim profile, Samsung developed its proprietary Flex Titanium display structure for the premium foldables. This architecture combines a titanium-alloy film with a titanium support plate underneath to absorb impacts, distribute mechanical tension, and minimize visible creasing over extended folding cycles. The hinge mechanism, magnetic force, and display tension were fine-tuned to ensure smoother opening actions. For outdoor visibility, a low-reflection finish was applied to preserve color vibrancy even in bright ambient conditions.

    Enhanced Hardware and Productivity Features

The flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra extends its display to an 8.0-inch QXGA+ main screen along with a 6.5-inch cover display. Built for multitasking and media creation, the Ultra model is equipped with a 200-megapixel primary camera with High Dynamic Range, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto module. For professional mobile videography, it supports 8K video recording using the APV video codec and includes Cine LUT color management tools for advanced editing workflows.

The internal hardware of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features an expanded graphite cooling system designed to enhance thermal management during demanding tasks. It is powered by a 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery with a 45W dual-path fast-charging system that efficiently distributes power across the cells. Users can configure the device with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, running on One UI 9 based on Android 17.

    Software Features and Global Launch

Alongside the larger foldables, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip8, a clamshell device measuring 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighing 180 grams. It features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 6.9-inch main screen, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,300 mAh battery. All three foldable models come equipped with AI-powered features developed in collaboration with Google, such as Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge, which automate background tasks, summarize complex files, and improve app navigation.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 series will begin immediately following the Unpacked event, with retail availability scheduled for August 7, 2026. The starting price is set at $1,899.99 for the base Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Ultra and Flip8 models will have updated hardware pricing for regional markets. The rollout underscores Samsung’s strategy to broaden foldable device adoption across premium consumer and enterprise markets worldwide.
